What this planet teaches

What Is a Budget?

A budget is a plan for your money. It's not about restricting yourself — it's about being intentional.

Simple budget framework:

1. Income — how much money comes in (allowance, gifts, earnings)

2. Fixed expenses — things you have to pay (subscriptions, savings commitment)

3. Variable expenses — things that change (snacks, entertainment, shopping)

4. Savings — what's left over (or better: pay yourself first!)

The "pay yourself first" method: Before spending anything, move your savings amount to savings. Then spend what's left. This flips the typical approach of "save what's left after spending" to "spend what's left after saving."

Tracking is everything. KidCash tracks every transaction automatically. Look at your history — where is your money actually going? Most people are surprised when they add it up.

How a planet works

Go through a short lesson with the KidCash mascot, three or four cards with a question to tap and reveal on each set. Last comes a three-question checkpoint: answer two correctly to clear the planet and earn the Budget Boss badge. Lesson progress stays in this browser; when a kid signs in, planet badges and any Family-plan badge rewards save to their KidCash profile.

Land on Budget Ring to try the lesson cards and checkpoint. Then play the mini game, which practices the same idea.

The game: Budget Kitchen: sort each month’s expenses into Needs, Wants and Savings before the money runs out.
