What Is Investing?

Investing means putting your money into something with the expectation that it will grow over time.

Saving vs. Investing:

  • Saving = keeping money safe (low growth, low risk)
  • Investing = putting money to work (higher growth, some risk)

  • Where people invest:

  • Stocks — buying a tiny piece of a company. If the company does well, your piece becomes worth more.
  • Bonds — lending money to a government or company. They pay you interest.
  • Index funds — buying a little bit of hundreds of companies at once. Less risky than individual stocks.
  • Real estate — buying property that can earn rent or increase in value.

  • The power of time: If you invest $100/month starting at age 15 in an index fund that averages 10% yearly return:

  • By age 25: ~$20,000
  • By age 35: ~$76,000
  • By age 65: ~$1,700,000

  • That's right — $100/month can become $1.7 million. The secret? Start early and let compound growth do the work.

    How a planet works

Go through a short lesson with the KidCash mascot, three or four cards with a question to tap and reveal on each set. Last comes a three-question checkpoint: answer two correctly to clear the planet and earn the Future Investor badge. Lesson progress stays in this browser; when a kid signs in, planet badges and any Family-plan badge rewards save to their KidCash profile.

Land on Market Tower to try the lesson cards and checkpoint. Then play the mini game, which practices the same idea.

The game: Stock Mountain: read each year’s news, then decide when to buy and when to sell your shares.
