The KidCash Dashboard Just Got a Lot Quieter

We moved your weekly summary, next-allowance hint, birthday countdown, and family share-link tip into a notification dropdown so the kid list isn't pushed below the fold anymore.

If you've opened your KidCash dashboard in the last day, you might have noticed it feels different. Less stuff at the top. More kids visible at a glance.

Here's what changed and why.

The problem

Over a year of shipping features, the top of the dashboard had quietly grown to six informational cards before you ever saw your kids:

A small child stands on tiptoes, peering over a stack of six brightly colored, oversized "information cards" that completely obscure their view of a toy box filled with smaller, personalized "kid" cards.

  1. Weekly summary (earned / spent / transactions)
  2. Next allowance hint
  3. Birthday countdown
  4. Allowance status confirmation (occasional)
  5. Pending chore approvals
  6. Share-link tip
  7. Recent achievements
  8. Family pulse trend chart

Some of those are useful. But your kids — the actual reason you opened the app — were below the fold on most laptops.

What we did

Three changes:

1. New notification bell in the top nav. Click it and you'll see weekly summary, next allowance, upcoming birthdays, and the share-link tip — all glance-info — in a dropdown. There's a count badge, dismiss buttons, and a "View all" link to the full notifications page.

2. New /notifications page. Same content, more breathing room. You can dismiss notifications and bring them back from a "Show dismissed" archive. Each notification's dismiss is keyed to its underlying signal, so dismissing this week's summary doesn't suppress next week's — it gets a fresh key and reappears.

3. Pending chores stay at the top of the dashboard. They're action items, not glance info. We didn't want to bury them.

What's still on the dashboard

In order, top to bottom:

  • The header card (welcome, family name, search)
  • Pending chore approvals (if any)
  • Your kids (where they belong)
  • Recent achievements (now flex-wrapped, no more horizontal scrollbar)
  • Family pulse trend chart (collapsible)
  • Recent activity feed

What this gets you

On most laptops, the kids list now appears within 200 pixels of the top instead of 800. On phones it's the difference between a third of the screen and the full screen.

That's the metric that matters: how many milliseconds before you can act?

Where to find it

Bell icon next to the Dashboard button in the top nav, or visit /notifications directly. Works on every page, not just the dashboard — so you can approve a chore or check a balance without leaving the page you're on.

P.S. The notification system is built to grow. Next on the list: a "what's new" feed of changes since you last logged in, plus per-kid event notifications when your child marks a chore Done. Both fit cleanly into the same dropdown without bloating it.
